The North Highlands Coast to Coast walk - Overview

These pages describe a possible coast to coast walk across the northern Highlands that I am currently researching, and how Beechwood Lodge B&B can help you to walk it.

Most walkers will be familiar with the long established Coast 2 Coast (C2C) long distance path of 140 miles across the narrowest part of England. This walk is inspired by that, but aims to take you across just about the narrowest part of the Scottish Highlands from the town of Alness on the Cromarty Firth on the east, to the town of Ullapool on Loch Broom on the west, a route of approximately 55 miles.

Unlike the English C2C, this walk will take you through some remote country, passing little habitation for much of the route. Therefore there is no accommodation on the way (except for a bothy or two) so if you want to do it in one continuous walk, it is a route for backpackers only. However it can be broken down into 4 days walking and with pre arranged transport to deliver you to and collect you from each stage, it would be possible to complete the walk returning to our B&B each night. You don't pass any shops on the way, so must take all your provisions with you if backpacking.

This is not an established long distance path (yet) and is one I have not seen promoted elsewhere. Rather it is a result of my own research and investigation.

We will be happy to provide B&B accommodation for a night or more before your departure, and again at the end of your walk. We can provide safe car parking while you do the walk. If you want to do the walk in 4 days as described, we can help with transport to and from each stage and provide B&B at Beechwood Lodge each night.
