Now turning my attention to insulating the roof of the house. this is a “warm roof” design meaning the insulation is right at roof level so the entire inside of the house, including any loft space, is within the insulated envelope of the house.
The starting point for this stage of the build is the roof is covered with 100mm thick wood fibre board and the rafters were left bare on the inside. I am now filling the gap between the rafters with more Frametherm 35 insulation then over boarding the inside with sheets of OSB to give the roof structure it’s racking strength. Later it will be battened and plasterboarded.
As I progress with this, I am also framing up “features” like in this case one bedroom retains a vaulted roof space while at the same time getting a mezanine floor above the adjacent small bedroom.
The space above the bathroom and the landing are being fitted with a conventional height ceiling to give some usable loft sopace
Here I have been framing up the wall between the master bedroom and the en-suite, and putting in a ceiling above the master bedroom but at a higher than normal height, leaving a small loft space above.
You will notice I have been partly lining the walls with air tightnes membrane, At the moment I am only doing those bits that will be coverred by some structure so have to be done now. The rest will get covered later on.
That completes insulating all the roof. Floor next…..
